The Anglia was made by Ford in Great Britain and officially imported by Ford of America from the early 1950s through the mid-1960s. It was meant to compete with the Volkswagen Beetle, Renault Dauphine and, to a lesser extent, the Nash Metropolitan. Like the VW, it was basic transportation at its most basic. Like the VW and Renault, it got very good gas mileage, but was painfully slow. It took almost 30 seconds to hit 60 MPH. Sales were respectable, but nowhere near VW's (or, in the late 1950s, Renault's).
There are very few Anglias left in the US. Most rusted away. Many of the few that survived had huge V8s dropped into them and were turned into hot rods.This car is salmon in color. That's a nice way of saying it's pink. It's salmon (pink) inside and out. I've never said this before - and most likely will never say this again about a car - but it looks cool in pink. (Uh, salmon.) According to the seller, everything, right down to the paint, is original.
I have never seen an unrestored Anglia in this condition before. I would love to know how a 53 year old - decidedly non-exotic - car survived this long without accumulating more miles and more scars. (I wouldn't mind seeing some documentation, too.) It's in truly remarkable condition.The asking price of $5800.00 would be steep if this was a run-of-the-mill Anglia. But, for an original car with Just 18K miles on it, the price seems pretty reasonable.
