Like some else pointed out on a different thread, if you came to the advocacy event earlier this week, like 150 of us did - you will be amazed at the amount of preparation and money that goes into organizing such a major event. A proper "Situation Room" was rented at a major hotel near Capitol Hill, advocacy packets printed and prepared neatly for 150 participants (6-10 folders for EACH lawmaker office), breakfast/snacks for all IV members who were visiting, a major Congressional reception which was attended by a few Congressmen themselves!!
It is shameful if we first expect others to do the work for us (some of these "others" are folks with green cards!) and then expect them to do it for free???!!
I used to have doubts donating and about the donor forum in the past but having seen the work and money being put in (on lobbying and organizing such annual events) in person I am ashamed I even had such doubts in the past. Come to the advocacy events and you will get all the transparency you need.
by the way, it was only due to the advocacy day that all one-time contributions were dedicated to pay bills for this major event. I made a one time contribution and spent $600 to travel there but am ok with IV making the donor forum open to recurrng contributors only since all the above activities are not Free.I am myself becoming a recurring contributor going forward after seeing the efforts being put in.

What is the best way for an NRI to transfer money from India(rupees) to US bank account(dollars). I'll get some money (about 2 lakh rupees) from LIC money back policy. I have an NRE account but my parents cannot deposit this amount in rupees in India into this account, because only dollars can be deposited into NRE account. I will appreciate your suggestions.

I applied for AP for myself and spouse on Jan - 7th and its texas service center. We got my spouse's last week.
I am still waiting for mine. And online status for spouse's AP shows initial review, although she got hers. Now I cannot depend on the online status for my AP.

There are 2 things you are clubbing here.
Issue 1:

Regarding changing employers after I140 Stage, This is what i have understood from reading various posts.
a) You have lost the LABOR, I140 of the previous employer. The employer
can substitue the same to some body else. This is where the controversy and issues and new rules are coming into picture. To limit this for 45 days.
b) You have to Start the GC process all over. i.e NEW LABOR, NEW I140
c) While applying for NEW I140 you can ask USCIS to port your OLD PD by sending the Previous I140 Copy. Again the experience on this not consistent.
d) The PD Is yours even if the employer is revoked it. But this is again Tricky and the rules are not clear. Some people got it done some don't.

This is nothing new! In consulting business, desi companies exploit H1b holders in ways you cannot imagine! It may seem outrageous to some but then you shouldnt forget the fact that they do this because they can. There are many people who would be willing to sign any contract or bear any kind of non-sense from employers just because they want to come and work in US. In other words, even if TCS is indicted and punished in this case, this wont deter other companies from doing it in future.
Another aspect of this is ignorance on part of employees regarding the law (be it tax law, immigration law or labor law). Employer tries to restrict as much information as possible and keeps the employee in the dark.
Hope plaintiff wins the case. It will be an eye opener for many.

o.k someone enlighten me...Am I reading it wrong...Everywhere in the amendment it says spouse and children shouldn't be counted towards numberical limit. Why are we opposing that?

Go to the SSA office and ask them to verify the I-94 number they have entered in the system when he filed for SSN, one more time. I think might have entered incorrectly first time. There is no update needed from USCIS becasue at the port on entry they have already entered his I-94 number with H1-B status. SSA office looks at I-94 number and associated status to verify whether he is eligible to work or not. The only possiblity is that they have entered it incorrectly. I know someone who had to go through the same issue.

Airport in his case) is not yet updated. All they (SSN dept) gave him was a letter stating they received the application and have to wait.
He has an assignment/project waiting/starting next week but cannot work without the SSN (need to complete background check and drug test as per the client policy). His employer he trying get some info on how to expedite this case but so far he could not help him much.
Usually people get their SSN within two weeks. His friend who landed at the same airport two days after him, got his SSN a week back. Has anyone faced similar situation, if so, please let me know if he can do anything to expedite the process. Is there a way one can contact the Immigration Dept or any Dept which can verify his information and update the same so that he can get a SSN.

i think austingc is right. Taking an english appointment and then asking for a hindi translator will not be wise. Too many scenarios work against you - and if the appt is cancelled and asked to reapply, not only will you loose the money, you will add many more sleepless nights.
Not sure how your local rep or senator can help since it is Delhi consulate problem, but try contacting them and see if they can be of help.

Also you need to have the PERM approved/ pending for atleast 365 days to get the 1 year extension. .
