You dirt boy, don't you remember you were born in the next dumpster to me?:D:D:D
Who knows whether they asked or not, tell me what did you fill out in the visa form. Did you mention you will apply for GC, may be they gave you visa before filling out the application??:p:p:p
Now I know who took my certificates from the dumpster, that is yooooooou:p
Mr.Dump master, 'I' is always typed in CAPS. Go get Rapidex:p
Were you born in a dumpster? You are assuming so many things here.
Whatever Kumar1 may apply to some F-1 students, but not to the cream of the crop.
Nobody asked me if I have immigration intent... they saw that i had I-20 from Cornell, MIT & UMBC and simply asked "Why cornell?". And before i could say anything she smiled and said "welcome to united states"... hah..suck on that
i bet that "jangli maharaj university" you got your diploma from is making your entire family very proud :):):):)

Rajgopal,
It is taking about 8 to 9 business days to process. This does not include the courier time. For my wife's passport we got it after two days because VFS handed the passport to Blue Dart after the cut off time at Chennai. We had our interview on 7th of Dec and we got our PP's on 20th and 22nd. I would not recommend any changes to the airline tickets until you get your PP in hand.
Hope this information helps.

Hi letstalklc
Thanks for your reply.
"SBI will update only once in the morning" Just wanted know the morning of India or USA ?
Ok, I just did myself and man you are RIGHT.
Today's exchange rate is [USD 4001 10000 48.07]
and I got ($$$ X 48.07) - 25.
Many thanks for the knowledge.
I am not sure if ICICI also does the same, because I too have stooped using their service. And you know what, I called when once when I had a very bad exchange rate given. I said that I will quit using your service and surprise surprise they didn't care. And ,now, So Do I.
That is India time....
If you transfer less than 1000 USD to outside SBI, they will charge 25 rupees, the only problem is that they will not specify that charges any where in the transaction.....but it will be accurate all the time....

What is this reverse brain drain ? there is no such thing - folks who are here are going to hang on tooth & nail to stay here come hell or high water - the only ones who are going back are the ones who have no other option.
It is not really a reverse-brain-drain. It is just less than 100% people on work visas attempting to stay permanently. Reverse-brain-drain will be when American born (or well established people) try to move to other countries. Some living here for few years, finding difficult to get used to American culture, food, life-style, etc., might decide to go back to their native country, but that is not reverse brain-drain.
Revere-brain-drain may happen in the future, but it is not there yet.

That was a great one jthomas. 100% agree.
Have decided to dump my H1 for good and start EAD on my new AC21 job soon.
getting job on EAD is much easier than h1b sponrsorship. AC-21 law was created to protect employee because of processing time taken by INS at that time.
At that time, USCIS ( former INS ) was taking probably more than 1 year.
By law, you can safely jump on 181 days and a lot of people are thinking of that for whatever reason. But my take will be that you should not jump on new job if
- If you are relatively stable in ur job and compensated ok.
- ur PD is very old (2001-02) because you case may be close to adjustication.
- You may have greater challange keeping ur new job if economy went south
if you get laid off from a job then it is much better to get a job on EAD rather than H1b. Probably underlying intention was AC-21 to protect alien in case he gets laid off. I know a lot of people take taken advantage of AC-21 and it is good.
BUT final regulation has not been published and USCIS final rule of AC-21 may be severely restircted in final rule (especially with July VB fiasco)
just my 2 cents

I have optionsexpress account which is cheap way to trade in options. I have not looked into alert features.
You should be able to look up option prices from most of the electronic brokers. I have used tdameritrade and optionsexpress.
Does optionexpress platform provide any special advantages related to option trading in terms of strategy analysis etc? I have etrade and I am not sure if i am missing anything

If you think that the GC is not worth the wait then I suggest that you withdraw your I-485 application asap. ;)[/QUOTE]
Nope, if you think that the wait time is what makes a GC worth, then would you have liked to wait for another 10 years to make it more worthy?, on the other hand if you had got the GC the very next day you applied for it, would it have been worthless?.
The point I am trying to make is that no one can justify the wait time. it is torture.

I am sure he had to struggle to get his GC first as we all did and then wait to become a US citizen.
.....
Looking at the wait times for current applicants, my wait time was nothing.
I hope things improve for better. There is no reason why one has wait for 5+ years to become permanent resident.

Guys I am ready to pay my dues to core....If you want I can start a thread to track the payment only for the core members. Lemme know what do you think.
Zoooom & Anzerraja:
The core membership may be modest and may not want to speak out much on this issue. It becomes our prerogative to drive this.
Lets do this. Zooom do you mind opening a separate thread, "Reimburse past expenses to Aman & other IV Core members" or something like that. Please post a message asking people to "pledge" an amount towards that effort. Can you two drive this effort. I am also available for assistance.
We will update members who pledge how to finalize their pledge by any of the following methods based on subsequent expert advice:
1) Should they contribute to IV directly
2) Send a personal check to Aman.
3) Other method like IV reimbursing Aman and others from the common donation corpus.

I believe your answer below was related to this situation:
Consider this:
If someone renews his/her H1B after 6 years based on approved I-140. Assuming that dates are not current, the H1B gets renewed for 3 years.
In this scenario if the pending I-485 gets denied, what happens to the current H1B? Does that also get invalidated as it's renewal was based on a pending I-485 and approved I-140?
Thanks,
-Ski
as per my understanding, as the H1B extension is based on pending 485, your H1 also becomes invalid with immediate effect. This is shocking, I was somehow believing that using H1 is safe, but it is not after initial 6 years are over. On the contrarary, there are reports that EAD stays valid atleast till the appeal period when 485 is denied, and while the MTR is filed. This is reported on some other threads. Can someone confirm this?

My wait time is as long as yours, so I am not thinking about getting ready for citizenship just yet (lot can happen in 5 years). If the USCIS processing times are to be believed, they are supposed to take between 12 and 15 months to decide on a currently filed application (the server seems to be down now, so couldn't verify the latest status). There may be additional time differences depending on where you are located. And knowing how USCIS operates, backlogs are not unheard of (http://www.immigrationpolicy.org/images/File/factcheck/CitizenshipDayFactSheet09-16-08.pdf).
Here is a comforting thought - and someone correct me if I am wrong - but unlike the hectic GC process with all the "inequalities" among various EB categories, naturalization process is a level-playing field where your specific skills do not matter. Everyone is considered equal here, whether you have got your GC via EB, FB or even amnesty route. This makes sense too, considering that your value (to this country) as a citizen rests primarily in your voting right, and someone who can cook is just as good to vote as another who writes smart computer codes (no knock on the cook, my wife is a fantastic cook herself). This is why the "priority date" for your citizenship application is set at 5 years (of continuous residency) from the date printed on your PR card, irrespective of your GC category (the wait is 3 years for those with USC spouse). The only condition that permits some arbitrariness in the evaluation process is in establishing a "good moral character", which makes point #6 in my original list important.
This is of 01/09. It takes about 6 months after N-400 is filed and you can apply after 4 years and 9 months.
http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/M-476.pdf
Yes, there will be backlogs but most likely there won't be long waiting lines. It really depends on the number of people filing. There won't be another July 2007.

I am sure this is going to happen within this week or next week.
1. They are going to take the revised visa bulletin and flip flop out from the website.
2. They will accept application as Visa Bulletin said on Jun 9th.
3. Because of this mess, they are going to give grace period till Aug 2007 for filing.
And in addition they will say that they will keep it in the backlog and when Visa number gets available they will process.

Smartboy,
Since your case was reopened on 28th Sept, it must be close to 20 days now. As USCIS has to make a decision in 30 days, do let us know about the outcome of your case. This would give an idea for rest of us on what to expect.
Thanks
