Ok, if advertising is too far-fetched, then hold some cultural events and make money on those. Brainstorm with members to find other ways to make money.
Organizing cultural events does sound like a good idea, but again the problem is "organizing". I volunteered in a few cultural event organizations and know that its hardwork and need many volunteers even in a small city (especially if its a fund-raising type). My understanding is state chapters are crying for members, if state chapters have enough volunteers it would be a good idea.
I think there were many brainstorming discussions on fund raising earlier on these forums. The problem with these anonymous forums are that anyone can give a suggestion and then do nothing about it (I am guilty of the same sometimes). Thats why I liked the idea of state chapters where members know each other and may be able to motivate each other to volunteer some time/money/etc.

If your parents have bad health, then its a risky trip anyways .. but if they are in a reasonable health, then most insurance plans (except the super cheap ones) should be fine to cover any emergencies .... I have used k v rao insurance couple of times (but never had to make a claim) ...
There are always bad stories about claim process, but that is just the nature of Insurance industry (had such experiences with my employer insurance as well ... despite it being a Fortune100 company with generous benefits)... so choose your poison! :)

I predict the movement of PD for april'07 will be significant for EB2 India, EB3 ROW for sure. They would not hold up everyone in EB2 India, EB3 ROW at the current priority dates.

Using all these new services like Rapid Transfer, M2I, TimesMoney is stupid. I am not sure someone in India really needs your money the next day. It is best to use a RUPEE DRAFT to send money. This way you know right there and there what rate you receive.
ICICI cannot be blamed for your 35 paise loss. They clearly state that there could be delays in wire transfer. Sending thru them, you agree that the conversion rate used will be the one avaiable on the day it reaches the destination. The bank cannot be blamed for this.
Again, use a rupee draft and pay $20 extra to send by USPS Global Express.

Nitin, how do you think that people who are here in this forum does not know about the other options available? Where in this world you get as many opportunities as you get in USA? Where can you get the flexible life like here?
How many IT jobs are there in Canada (assuming most of the members in IV are into IT)? Canada Alberta program increased processing times to 8 months now and it excludes federal processing times. Federal application method takes more than one and half years.

Could we keep calling, even after raising one SR?
Raised an SR on 08/25/2009. Took infopass on 09/02/2009 and came to know that mine, spose and the kid got pre-approved.
Recd a response for my SR on 09/04/2009 from uscis saying that my case is being actively processed. Called uscis again on 09/04/2009 and got good scoldings from the 2nd level CSR saying in a rude and harsh tone, that I have already raised an SR and am supposed to wait atleast for 60 days before calling again.
Could I still persevere and call uscis? I was never so anxiuos or dissappointed before at not getting email.
Actually, I thought what the heck and tried it from my personal email. And they responded in 2 days. The response was all BS...full of grammatical and factual errors with strange sentence constructions...seemed to have been texted by a highschooler.
What actually worked was POJ method of reaching NSC IO.
9/3/09: IO was curt, but I insisted on assigning my case to an IO.
9/4/09: IO was all sweet and honey...told me that my case had already been assigned to an IO because of my call the previous day. (This is important, folks - getting your case assigned to an IO). She was so approachable, I asked her if she could approve my case now. She obviously said no, but said she would see what she could do. This was the best response from NSC so far. Asked me to wait for one more day. It was long weekend, so had to wait 3 looooong days.
9/8/09: IO gave the approval news. 5 minutes later, my wife called and got a really annoying IO, who instead of looking up her case, went on a tirade. That night got the email.
9/14/09: Got the card.
I did try 2 Senator's office, a really hopeless CongressWoman, both Obamas, both Bidens, Napolitano, Mayorkas, Pelosi, Ombudsman, two NCSC SRs, AILA (through my attorney). And nothing worked. It was funny that the Senator's office called me to wait 60 more days. When I told her of my approval, she was short with me. So, in my case, nothing worked except the POJ method and personal perseverance. Keep on calling until you find a good IO to help you. Good luck!

I have a thought! How about fund raising events....members with some talent can really help here...hold an event (such as a concert...i have heard of some talented classical singers or classical dance performers from India giving concerts for a fee of a few thousand dollars in university auditoriums or other cultural venues) with all proceeds going to IV, or sell some services (such as IT services, accounting services, or any other high-skill talent that might otherwise cost a lot), etc. Say, someone wants to sell something on eBay, how abolut selling it and donating the proceeds to eBay. This way, we might be able to contribute more funds by performing some activities that we already have the talent for.
come on people, among such qualified and educated folks as the members of this organization, can we not find some skill in us that can be used to raised some funds?

Second the idea of using an ATM card for this purpose. You can get an ATM card for your parents or relatives in India from your local credit union or bank in the US.
How does this ATM thing work? Do you give your family in India your own ATM card/PIN or do you request the credit union to issue ATM cards for your family.
I just checked with the credit union I have account with and they said, to issue ATM cards to anyone else they (the person) should have SSN# and they should be made joint account holders. This is not possible when you are planning to give the ATM cards to people in India right?

I did an AC21 before my GC got approved. I did this on my EAD card and when I joined I filed my I9 form for taxes. Now after getting GC do I need to renew my I9 form or the old one stays valid?
Also since I am not with my GC sponsoring employer do I still need to follow the 6 months rule with my current employer since date of approval?
Also can we move this compilation to IV Wiki?

If you look at the PD progress for EB3 I, the only movement was during March and April 07.

if the recapture bill doesnt pass, we are looking at something similar this year too, very little movement. My guess is that EB 2 I is also going to retrogress a bit, simply because of the number of applicants in that category. EB 3 ROW will also see slow movement because of the distribution pattern.
My guess is that it will move a bit more faster than last year. Note that Apr 22 was the hump day (been dealing that that day right through labor certification phase), after that, the movement was steady. The Nov1 showing up twice is due to exhaustion of the numbers. I am expecting a steady march going forward.

1. DO NOT talk to the party or attorney who sued you directly. If they call take the contact info, tell that ur attorney will call them.
2. Talk to your insurance company
3. Talk to an attorney
4. Gather all documentation that you have
Sorry about wat happened to you. Looks like there are considerable injuries . You might not win the case since you are at 80% fault. Like others said you can not go back to India like nothing happened. You have to consult an attorney, ask if he can work on contigency basis. They will get all med records to decide if other party is faking or claiming too much. If you loose the case, then it depends howmuch you have to pay. If damages awarded are less than 500K, you can file bankrupcy. But you end up paying like mortgage forever. Once you file bankrupcy, I think you can leave the contry legally. If you loose and wish to stay, Your payments will be reduced if you have kids and a house payment.

Thanks for starting this topic!!! This could be an emotional thread for a lot of us who are still waiting for this rediculously long process of GC!!!!
More frustrating when:
Waited for 3++ yrs for the labor cert (PD Sept 2002)
Just submitted I140 (6/2006) but have to endure the fear that my EB2 will be kicked to EB3, which means RETROGRESSION!
With H4, wife cannot work. Going to school is too expensive..i can't afford it with my small salary
Stucked with current company...being under appreciated and under utilized by the current employer...not a place for me to build my CAREER!!!
Have potential contract jobs/independent consultant positions available (recruiters contacted me) which pay 50% than what i am making now...but can't accept those offers bcos of GC!!!!
So so tempted to return home for good (sick and tired of the WAIT), but Everyone was saying "u had waited for years now, so why not wait for another year or so to get it..don't waste the golden opportunity" But...but...is it really going to be just another YEAR? :rolleyes:
Sigh...sorry for venting...but i am really upset!

Lou Dobbs was in Orange County this weekend as a Keynote speaker at the The World Affairs Council of Orange County. He launched into his usual vitriolic diatribe, there were many business leaders at the forum and he ended up polarizing the crowd. Some felt that he is all talk with no practical real life experience managing companies, his ideas are over the top and cannot be implemented. He never ran or lead a fortune 500 company or held a major political office, yet he critiqued the very organizations who sponsored tables for this dinner. A few did get carried away by his speech, i have to say that the crowd at the back was cheering wildly for him while the executives in the front were subduded. BTW this person with socialist leanings has hefty appearance fees.
We would be better off not wasting our time on him or rebutting his indirect accusations, he is playing to his crowd. We should play to ours.

Guys
Don't fight for Eb2 vs Eb3 or Eb2 vs Eb1 etc. If we focus on these 3 bills then it will solve all our problems.
(1) STEM bill remove all MS + Phd people so Eb2 will be half empty and Eb1 will be 80 % empty.
(2) Re capture will bring new visas where they will go certaily to Eb3. ( Eb1 and Eb2 do not need visa if passes STEM bill )
(3) No Country cap limit. Will clean Huge line of Eb3 india, China , Phili..
