1961 Datsun Fairlady SPL212 - A Very Rare Car

So many cars, so little time.

The seller recently wrote "sale pending" in his ad.

The SPL212 was an export-only car. Datsun / Nissan never produced them in RHD for the home market. Between 1960 and 1961, just 288 were built. It has a 1.2 liter 4, a 4 speed manual and drum brakes all around.

According to the seller, this car was "refurbished" in the mid-1980s, but it obviously needs a complete restoration now. It appears that at one point the seller was thinking about parting it out, as he writes: "The side trim and bumpers pictured have been removed and are not available." I'm pretty sure those pieces are close to impossible to find today. He mentions that a new grille has been "sourced" for the car, but doesn't mention if it comes with it.

This is a neat piece of Datusn / Nissan history. It will take a lot of time, effort and money to restore it, but being as rare as it it, I believe it is worth it.

We all know how "pending sales" sometimes go, so it's worthwhile bookmarking the ad and checking back from time to time.

A big thanks to Jon for sending me the link to this car!
