I don't think American politicians can be successfully swayed by the take pity on us argument. They have bigger things to worry about in that front. Hey, millions of people are dying all over the world.
I would stick to some version of 'giving us GCs is good for America argument'.
o.k..I agree. let me be more supportive and make this more realistic. say people actually start writing and meeting the senators. what do we say ..have pity on us ..we are stuck in this nightmare ? earlier I would try to link this issue and housing, people not investing here , migrating to other countries etc ..but there would be opposition ..and hence my question (not to h1tech) ..but to others ..what do I say when I write / meet a senator ..

It’s amazing how desperate people can get for a crummy green card. So are some of us guys prepared to spy on our country of origin for a GC next? Its shame full that educated people like us can even think of this. This thought of joining the U.S armed forces takes the cake and the icing too.

Friend of mine has small project in his company and he needed me to help him to complete the project. He was asking me if I can work under 1099(independent contractor) for few hours a week.
Is there anybody who is using EAD to work for an employer under W2 and also works part time on 1099?

back from awesome 2k people IV rally in DC! Great to see people stand up and exercise their right to protest.
...and more importantly, great behind the scenes work by IV. I think a lot of real work got done this week, talking to congressmen and their aides.

The title of the bill says "Hi-Tech Worker Relief Act of 2007". Does this mean it is useful only for Hi-Tech (Computer Software, Hardware & IT) employees? What about others seeking H-1B employment? Like Doctors, Dentists, Business Managers, etc., for example.

At the outset, I want to clarify that I don't know who RNGC is, we have never talked on this issue.
Some of you who know me might be having deja vu. I just want to say that it is either coincidence or matter of observation that our thoughts are same.
I agree with RNGC 100%. It is time to take our organization to the next level.

I started thinking about writing this post after I read a post about questioning at SFO poe (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17061) . The post said the officer said that AP should be used only for emergency travel. The LI (legal immigrant) had some anxious moments before he was let in. The point I am trying to bring is, we should NOT have any fear/anxiety or anything. We are LIs and we came here to USA to help the IT industry. We should be treated like guests with dignity.
LET ME ALSO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT HERE IN USA, EVERYONE IS TREATED VERY WELL WITH DIGINITY AND RESPECT 99% OF TIME..., but few stray incidents happen here and there.
What about IV ?
IV is GREAT, NO QUESTION ABOUT IT. It is run by few very dedicated hardworking individuals like one of us who has volunteered to work for LIs (legal immigrants). But these individual are just like many of us, young with family and kids to take care of. As you all know, we get very busy with our own lives and have very little time to dedicate to immigration issues.
What we need ?
My suggestion is to have a Professional/Formal/Official/Accountable (IV falls into all these) but we can't expect them to help us all the time, they are volunteers. Something along the lines of "American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin" (http://www.aapiusa.org/). In UK there is an organisation for highly skilled immigrants. Since IV has members of all countries, we can call it AALI (American Association of Legal Immigrants).
How this will help us ?
My idea is AALI will provide service to its members. For its operations members will have to pay an annual fee of ($250, $150 , $100) ? I don't know how much it may cost. But we need an annual membership fee, so we can have a real office with staff. This will be purely a non profit organisation working for LIs.
Who will run this ?
I don't know. Someone like Janet Murguia of La Raza's who took on Lou Dobbs. We need some one strong and powerful to voice our issues and concerns! We need people who can dedicate their full time for this organisation. Though this will not be a luracative career, but anyone, who is well versed with immigration issues and not interested in making a big salary (but will not work for free either!). We can approach FIA (Federation of Indian Associations) etc if we can find some people.
How the members will benefit from AALI ?
My idea is to create a small network of lawyers( again those not interested in making huge money) , though it is hard to find lawyers who are not interested in making lots of money, there are some who are happy just to make enough. We can provide immigration services at very minimal costs to members of AALI thru this network of lawyers. Also, if we have lots of members, there will be more work for lawyers and we can workout minimal rates (Walmart formula!)
Also, we see the same questions asked again and again several times here in IV forums, with the help of the lawyer networks, we can establish a well documented Wiki with FAQs/DO & DON'ts etc for the AALI members...Also, This organisation can get questions clarified with USICS.
This organisation will also represent us, the legal immigrants(LIs) with negotiations with USCIS,CIS Ombudsman, Washington DC etc...They can be POC for LI for media...
Also, this organisation will NOT lobby for more H1s etc, but will see that LIs who are here, will have a place to go for help if they need.

The lesson learnt here is: Free/voluntery things don't really work very well. We need to have a well structured/financied body to deal with the issues we have.

Most people say the Labour Certification process is pretty straight forward and the DOL doesn't raise queries about programming skills.
I am wondering whether my lawyer did sent enough documents to the DOL or not.
I am about to enter my 6th year on H1, so time is very critical for me.
I would really appreciate your inputs. Your inputs will definitely help me for answering back the DOL letter.
Getting certifications, couse syllabuses and letters from your former professors will definitely help.

FP just arrived a week after the EAD. Still waiting for AP. My undestanding is that they are not getting back to APs untill they are caught up with receipts and EADs.
