Refer to http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10002.html#how and check out Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5) under How do I get a number and card? You need to fill out this form.
This form has list of documents you need to get a SSN card. Generally you need to carry your Passport and EAD. They will return all the documents at same time. They won't keep the documents with them and they need all original documents. They donot accept Copies. Hope this helps.

Is it possible to atleast get some kind of stamp from the Indian consulate providing authenticity to your damaged passport copies? Something like a notarized thing - but from the consulate.

As you may have realized , it is not as easy as your name suggests to get a GC, not now a days.
I hope you were not serious (? ) when you have started this thread, are you?!!!!!
Please realize , what you are asking for is not a paid service to guarantee? Agree?
There are already provisions for some applications where you can pay and expedite your application... This is not like that.
We are all here trying to get attention to our problems from those who matter.
Please appreciate this Team efforts.

One more thing, I share your frustration of long (UNKNOWN HOW LONG) waiting time.

Yes, I have copies of Medical Reports for US immigration that were done in july. My concern is that TB skin test shows positive and then they did chest x-ray and that shows negative. Is that going to cause problem?
Also, can I take the medical report from US immigration and hopefully, if I can get the actual X-Ray, would that save me money for Canada immigration medical?

I.... For later Citizenship purposes, just stay with new employer for another 6 months. Munna Bhai is cent percent correct in his recommendations/statements....That is very well documented and discussed in immigration forums etc...
Could someone please elaborate with a real time exprience of friends, if at naturalization stage, USCIS asks if you worked for the sponsoring employer; if so, how long, what was your next job, what field (same as LC?), etc. etc. I had the impression that if you lived for 5 years after getting GC without being on public charge or without having anything negative on your record, such issues are irrelevant.

I filed my I140 concurrently just in time for the Aug 17 '07 deadline. Got the receipt notice and thats the last I heard about it. USCIS online status check fails with "Case status retrieval failed".
I called USCIS to enquire about the status on I140 and after their reply was that my employer needs to call to find out the status. They won't tell me what the current state is. I did not try again, to see if another IO might have some different rules regarding this enquiry.

Hi Guys,
I joined a fortune 500 company in April 2006 and my offer letter states that
"After one year of satisfactory or above performance, [Comapany Name] will make a determination about sponsorship for permanent residency".
The company made a technology change from Microsoft to Java and I am being told that since I do not have the skills for the new environment they will not sponsor my residency.
Is the company legally bound to sponsor my residency or am I better off looking for new opportunities.
Thanks a lot for your help.
nop ... none of the companies are legally bound to file your GC ... they do it to keep you on their payroll and exploit you over a longer period of time ... for big companies they always does the same .. either they will do it late or will never do it .... so better keep your resume fine tuned and put it on job sites ...

I never left the SSN field blank. I always filled in the ITIN number instead of SSN which has the same format xxx-xx-xxxx.

I just realized that there is a backdoor trick to solve the income restrictions for this year. Your friend can contribute to Traditional which has no income restriction and then immediately convert to Roth which has no conversion limit. This way your friend can not only convert but also contribute indirectly to Roth. This may require some help from IRA custodian but they might be prepared for this because a lot of people would be converting from Traditional to Roth this year.

How the tracker provides 3686 based on my prioority date ?

FOIA response is b4 mass preadjudication USCIS update is more current therefore after the ongoing pre-adjudication. remember they had no clue of the numbers till they actually preadjudicated right? I know its sad but that is the only explanation.
1) Also don't be surprised if the number increases in the coming months as more get pre adj.
2) Another thing to mention here is there are people who are of older PDs but because of misc reasons did not file their I485.
3) Also my guess is this does not contain the number of people in Consular processing.
So even this calculation is not foolproof.
