The 850 Spider is a great looking car. "Messing" with it could have had disastrous results. In this case, it did not. The 850 Racer is as nice looking as the Spider. The fact that Bertone designed the original Spider and the racer has a lot (everything) to do with that.
As far as I can tell, around 1500 of these were built.
These are by no means fast cars (it takes around 15 seconds to get to 60 and has a top speed of just under 100 MPH), but they're fun to drive in the great Italian keep-the-revs-up kind of way.This has been on an off eBay for awhile now. Most recently it was bid up to just under $13,000, but didn't sell. That's the problem with a car like this. While it's rare, fun to drive and incredible to look at, it's still a sub-1000cc, driver quality, Fiat. Finding the right buyer may take some time.
